Best Candidates for Dental Crowns
A crown can help in many situations. Dental crowns can be used to keep a tooth (weakened by decay) from breaking or they can hold parts of a tooth together that have already cracked. Crowns can also be used to treat a tooth that is loose or extremely worn down. They can serve as support for a tooth with a cavity that is too large for a regular filling, to hold a dental bridge in place, and to mask teeth that are misshapen or discolored. MINT dentistry crowns are made with top-quality porcelain and set with state-of-the-art techniques to ensure a beautiful result that lasts a long time.
What to Expect
Once your treatment plan has been created, your team will take impressions of your teeth that help us design your custom restoration. If needed, a temporary cap can be put on to cover your tooth as the dental lab makes your custom crown. Once your restoration is complete, you will need to schedule an appointment for placement. After settling into a comfortable treatment chair, you will be offered a pair of Beats headphones and MINT sunglasses to help you feel at ease. First, the area to be treated will be anesthetized with numbing cream. Stronger sedation options may be available if you have trouble relaxing due to anxiety or dental fears. Once you are ready, a skilled dentist will prepare the tooth by removing any decay and filing down the tooth to make room for the crown so it will fit snugly. The crown will be cemented onto the tooth or attached to the dental implant. After the crown is set, we will adjust the fit, so it feels comfortable and matches your natural teeth.
Treatment Aftercare
Unless you added sedation to your procedure, you should be able to leave as soon as your crown is placed to continue your day. Your team will demonstrate the best way to care for your dental crown, including what food you shouldn't eat and how to properly clean it. We strongly suggest patients come back for a follow-up visit and get their dental bite assessed once the crown has settled in place to ensure their alignment is comfortable. A small misalignment with your bite is expected because of anesthesia and numbness, but we are happy to make adjustments. During your exams and cleanings at MINT dentistry, your dentist will assess your crown and adjust the fit as needed so it remains comfortable. We will let you know when the crown needs to be replaced or repaired, but with proper care, a crown should last for many years. If you experience any concerns about your crown (for example, it feels loose or get knocked out), contact our office. Do not try to fix it or put it back in yourself since this can lead to an infection or bad fit.
The MINT Commitment
If you have dental insurance, a portion of the cost of your crown may be covered. After speaking with your insurance company, our office can estimate your out-of-pocket expenses. During your consultation, your dentist can help you determine the best treatment plan for your crown to fit your needs and budget. We will also go over payment options, including the MINT discount plan, so you can more easily afford your treatment. Our team at MINT dentistry is committed to helping each of our patients get a healthy, attractive smile. Our dental crowns and restorations are made with the highest quality porcelain material so they look great and last a long time.
